12th November 2017 – Third Sunday before Advent / Remembrance Sunday
St Andrew’s Church welcomes allcomers, whether this is your first time or thousandth time in church. You are welcome whatever your age, gender, marital status, disability, race or sexuality. You are welcome whether you have a deep and mature faith in Christ; are uncertain and still seeking; or have no faith. If you are new to church, please do take a welcome leaflet to be found in the pews; and do not hesitate to ask one of the welcomers if you have any queries.
An especially warm welcome to you if you are joining us this morning to mark Remembrance Sunday.
StAPH becomes St Andy’s Church
After 10 years as StAPH, the PCC has agreed to rename our church plant as St Andy’s Church. This decision was driven by the need to ensure that outsiders understood that it was a church, and has the advantage of making the connection with St Andrew’s transparent, while pointing up the informality which is one of the hallmarks of the plant. St Andy’s will meet in St Andrew’s through November at 4pm, a good opportunity for St Andrew’s people who have always wondered what happens at StAPH to come along.
Eastern Green Residents Association
There is an exploratory meeting at the Eastern Green club on Wednesday at 7.30pm to discover whether there is any scope to form an Eastern Green Residents Association. If you live in the area, please do come along. Local councillors will be in attendance to field your concerns and requests.
For the first time in five years or more, St Andrew’s will be hosting Deanery Synod on Wednesday 29th November. We are looking for a couple of volunteers to serve tea and coffee from 7-7.30pm. If you are able to help, please speak to Greg.
Tako N’gambi, an 11 year old boy from Eastern Green is undergoing temporary treatment for a rare disease, aplastic anaemia. A desperate search for a bone marrow donor is being made as he urgently needs a transplant. Tako was admitted to University Hospital in July, but is now undergoing treatment at Birmingham Children’s Hospital. A justgiving page has been set up by the Firefighter Junior Football Team which Tako plays for and is raising money to buy something to help pass the time while Tako is in hospital and to support his family whilst they have to take time off work and help with travel costs: https://www.justgiving.com/crowdfunding/tako?utm_id=2&utm_term=WmRm4P9xZ
You can also help by joining the Anthony Nolan register, which is a charity that helps find bone marrow matches.
Christmas Hampers for Deprived Families
Following the success of delivering Christmas hampers to Kidz Klub families in recent years, Kidz Klub Coventry are looking to do the same again this year. The hampers have been an incredible blessing to many of our families, reducing several parents to tears at the kindness expressed in the gift. If you would like to help to put together a hamper please see the letter and information sheet on the noticeboard at the back of church.
The Shoebox Appeal is running again this year and the closing date for collection is 25th November 2017. Instructions for assembling the shoeboxes, contents and labelling can be found at the back of the Church. Julia McNaney is coordinating the collections so if you have any questions please feel free to contact her on 07872 614688.
Is it that time already? The clocks have gone back, the shops have been decorated for Christmas and the merchandise displayed to start us thinking about Christmas. At St Andrew’s we too are preparing for Christmas by holding a four week Advent group and all are welcome. We will meet on Thursday mornings from 10.30-12 noon starting on Thursday 23rd November, and will meet at Rita Muir’s home, 9 Nailcote Avenue, Tile Hill. Among the preparation for Christmas can you make space to meet with others to look at the Bible and think afresh about the meaning of Advent and Christmas. If you would like to come or want to know more, please speak with me or call me on 07958 322026. Sue Masters
The church is being decorated on Saturday 2nd December for Christmas. Please spare half an hour to come at 9.15am and help make our lovely church look even more beautiful. Thank you, Ann Dove.
