21st January 2018 – Third Sunday of Epiphany
St Andrew’s Church welcomes allcomers, whether this is your first time or thousandth time in church. You are welcome whatever your age, gender, marital status, disability, race or sexuality. You are welcome whether you have a deep and mature faith in Christ; are uncertain and still seeking; or have no faith. If you are new to church, please do take a welcome leaflet to be found in the pews; and do not hesitate to ask one of the welcomers if you have any queries.
Sunday Service Rota Volunteer
We are looking for more volunteers to read a lesson, take the elements up to the altar, dress the altar before the service or act as sidespersons during the Sunday morning service. Please give consideration as to whether you could take on one or more of these roles. With sufficient volunteers your services would only be needed about once or twice in each three month period. For more information, please speak to Steve Wankling or Greg.
Flower Rota 2018
The 2018 flower rota is now at the back of church. There are still lots of spaces so if you would like to put your name down for a week, please do.
Parish Safeguarding Course 0 (the basic module)
Everyone who has a volunteer role at St Andrew’s Church should now have received a letter from Greg regarding the completion of Parish Safeguarding Course 0. If you have not received this then please contact Julie on 07756 918847 or email@example.com. The Course can be completed online by visiting http://www.dioceseofcoventry.org/Safeguarding/SafeguardingTraining and clicking on “online basic safeguarding awareness training”. This should take approximately an hour to complete, at the end of which you will be invited to download a certificate. When you have done this, please email a copy of the certificate to Julie who will forward this to Linda Chylinski (our Safeguarding Officer). Please do this by 17th February. Alternatively, you may attend one of our training sessions in church on Wednesday 7th February at 7.30pm or Saturday 17th February at 10am. Please let Julie know if you will be attending the training session. Thank you.
Safeguarding Course 1
On the noticeboard in church, I have put up Course 1 dates from now until end of March. Details of how to book are also with it, but if in doubt, please contact me. Anyone who is involved with children and/or vulnerable adults needs to attend this course every couple of years please. Thanks, Linda Chylinski.
Safeguarding Pro Forma
Those people who attended C0 training will be aware there is now a pro forma for recording concerns or allegations of abuse within a church. This form is now pinned onto the noticeboard at the back of church should it be required. Thank you, Linda Chylinski.
Now known as All Star Theatre Company, led by Emma, Selina and Greg, has started up again for a new term focusing on fairy tales. We meet at St Oswald’s Church on Thursdays from 6-7pm ages 8-12.
To raise funds for the church we intend to hold an Easter raffle and would be grateful for donations of prizes. If you are able to donate please pass you item(s) to Charley Watts or Linda Chylinski. Thank you.
Eastern Green Community Group
A new community group to represent residents of Eastern Green will be formally constituted at a meeting on Thursday 25th January at 7.30pm at Eastern Green Social Club. All local people welcome to attend and vote on the establishment of a committee.
Bible Page Numbers
We have asked readers to announce page numbers when introducing bible readings. For those of you who don’t like to be rushed in finding the right page, please note the page numbers are recorded in pews news each week. Having bought 20 new bibles, it would be great if lots more people were following the readings.
The next Pram Service for pre-school children and their carers takes place on Tuesday 23rd January at 9.15am with refreshments served from 8.45am. Story and song in an informal setting. This week’s theme: how people were made. All welcome.
We thought it might be helpful to know when Church staff are not available.
Greg & Phil’s day off is usually Friday.
Emma is off from 6pm Friday until 9am Sunday.
Julie’s working hours are 8am-2pm Monday and Wednesday and 8am-12 noon Friday
Please only disturb them in the event of death or serious illness.
Bible Video Project
St Andrew’s will be making a short video in the coming weeks, interviewing people about what they get out of reading the bible. We are looking for volunteers to speak to camera for about 40 seconds. We are looking for people who don’t mind talking about the difficulties as well as the joys of bible reading. If you might be interested, please speak to Sue Masters.
Allesley Green Prayer
There is a prayer group that meets once a month to pray for Allesley Green on the fourth Tuesday. This month’s meeting is on the 23rd at 7.30pm at 27 Polperro Drive. All welcome.
The Tile Hill Job Club, one of the great successes in which the church is involved, is looking for non-specialist volunteers to supplement the team, as welcomers, people with basic IT skills to help assist with job hunts and people to can spare a listening ear. For more information, please speak to Dawn Easthope at firstname.lastname@example.org
