4th March 2018 – The Third Sunday of Lent
St Andrew’s Church welcomes allcomers, whether this is your first time or thousandth time in church. You are welcome whatever your age, gender, marital status, disability, race or sexuality. You are welcome whether you have a deep and mature faith in Christ; are uncertain and still seeking; or have no faith. If you are new to church, please do take a welcome leaflet to be found in the pews; and do not hesitate to ask one of the welcomers if you have any queries.
To Rachel King who is on placement at St Andrew’s for the next couple of months, while she explores the possible of ordination in the Church of England. She comes with her husband Jonty and two young boys, Jack and Barnaby. Please introduce yourselves and make them welcome.
St Andrew’s Choir
On February 12th, St Andrew’s PCC took the difficult decision to ask our wonderful choir to retire at Easter. While this decision was almost unanimous, it was not taken without recognizing that it would be painful for some members of the choir and congregation. The decision was taken after a period of consultation with the choir and much prayer. We were mindful that choir numbers have reduced in recent years, with the loss of two younger members in the past months; and with ill health an increasing factor affecting attendance. Our intention is that Dawn Easthope should remain as Director of Music and to recruit a Festival Choir from among the existing choir and wider congregation to sing on special occasions e.g. Easter/Christmas/Harvest. We would especially like to host a Songs of Praise service in the summer. There is no plan to change our style of worship, nor any other hidden agenda. Greg is willing to visit anyone to talk further one to one and pray.
As we look forward to our Palm Sunday re-enactment of the passion story, we are looking for volunteer performers, seamstresses and prop makers. Anyone who would like to help in any way should speak to Greg or Kate Howarth. Actors should be 8+.
Our annual Passover service/meal takes place on Monday 26th March at 7pm. For catering purposes, if you wish to attend, please sign on the list at the back of church. Please don’t leave this till the last minute because there is a limit to our capacity. There is a special role for children at the meal, so children’s attendance is warmly encouraged.
On Tuesday of Holy Week (the 27th) there will be a service at 7pm with music and readings commemorating the Passion of our Lord. If you would like to read at this service, please speak to Greg.
Forget me Not
Our fortnightly group for people living with dementia next meets on Tuesday 13th March at 2pm. All welcome. For further details, please speak to Rita.
Our next service for pre-school children and their carers takes place on Tuesday 13th March at 9.15am, (doors opening from 8.45am).
All Star Theatre Company
The drama group run by Greg, Selina and Emma will be running on Thursdays at 6pm at St Oswald’s Church. The project this term is Rapunzel.
Bible Video Project
St Andrew’s will be making a short video in the coming weeks, interviewing people about what they get out of reading the bible. We are looking for volunteers to speak to camera for about 40 seconds. We are looking for people who don’t mind talking about the difficulties as well as the joys of bible reading. If you might be interested, please speak to Sue Masters.
Seek His Face
Our next gathering for prayer, praise and prophecy takes place next Sunday at 6.30pm led by Greg.
Anyone who is able to help out at Kidz Klub on Tues 27th March from 5-6.15pm to help with refreshments etc. should contact Sarah Adamson at firstname.lastname@example.org. Kidz Klub is based at Limbrick Wood Baptist Church and is supported by St Andrew’s in prayer and with occasional financial support because of their commitment to sharing God’s love with the children of Tile Hill. You can also support them at this time by buying a Real Easter Egg or donating £4 so that each child receives an Easter Egg. Please give eggs or money to Greg or Phil (they promise not to eat the eggs!) by March 14th.
Christians Against Poverty
Are looking for volunteers to act as befrienders, who will accompany one of the Christians Against Poverty staff as they visit clients in the area who are trying to free themselves from debt. For further information, contact IanBurton@CAPUK.org or speak to Greg.
Local Church Prayer Meeting
Members of local churches gather together on the second Wednesday of each month at St James Church on Tile Hill Lane at 7.30am to pray for 30 minutes followed by breakfast for those who can stay. Please speak to Greg or Phil if you would like a lift.
We are looking to recruit an additional audio-visual operator to join our select team of Steve and Paul. This would only require a once in a while commitment on a Sunday morning to cover holidays. Full training provided. Concentration is the most important gift needed!
Barbara Warner is looking for a volunteer to share the role of coordinating link deliveries, perhaps on a month about basis. The role entails bundling the links up when they arrive towards the end of the month and recruiting new deliverers as necessary. For further information, please speak to Greg or Barbara at email@example.com
Thanks to all those who supported the Quiz Night on Friday. 140 tickets were sold, our best ever return.

Such retreats offer an opportunity to commit to a period of more intentional prayer, while continuing our normal routines. For further information, please see the Leaflet “A Coventry Retreat in Daily Life” or have a word with Lesley Lee.
We have been able to donate a further £45 to the Society for which they are extremely grateful and would like to thank all those who have filled the tubes (mites) with their spare change. It is amazing how it mounts up, and appreciate your continued support. A receipt for this amount is on the noticeboard at the back of the church. Many thanks, Barbara Warner.
We are looking for volunteers to join the Sunday Service Rota, particularly for dressing the Altar before the 10am Sunday Service. This would require those who feel they would be able to help arriving at church in good time to have the Altar prepared before the majority of worshipers arrive. This is not an arduous or complicated task and full instruction will be given. The frequency of duty would be every three or four weeks, depending on the number of volunteers coming forward. Those interested please contact Greg or Steve Wankling. Thank you.
Mother’s Day Posies
Volunteers needed on Saturday 10th March at 9.15am to make up posies for Mother’s Day. Thank you. Ann Dove.
General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR)
On the 25th May 2018, General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) will replace the Data Protection Act of 1998. As a church we take the responsibility of your personal data very seriously, with the new rules coming into effect, we must contain consent to hold your personal information. At any point you can ask for all data being held on you, and for all information to be removed. The information will only be shared by the leadership team for activities within the church or pastoral needs. Consent forms are being distributed over the next couple of weeks, please ensure these are returned to Becky Crowe or Linda Chylinski.
If you would like to make a donation towards the cost of the Easter flowers please see Ann Dove.
To raise funds for the church we intend to hold an Easter raffle and would be grateful for donations of prizes. If you are able to donate please pass you item(s) to Charley Watts or Linda Chylinski. Thank you.
Please remember to close the main door and windows when not in use. This will help to keep the church warmer during colder months and save on energy bills.
