18th March 2018 – Fifth Sunday of Lent
St Andrew’s Church welcomes allcomers, whether this is your first time or thousandth time in church. You are welcome whatever your age, gender, marital status, disability, race or sexuality. You are welcome whether you have a deep and mature faith in Christ; are uncertain and still seeking; or have no faith. If you are new to church, please do take a welcome leaflet to be found in the pews; and do not hesitate to ask one of the welcomers if you have any queries.
To Jon & Tracey who were married at St Andrew’s yesterday.
Very grateful thanks to all those who came and helped to make the Mother’s Day posies. Ann Dove.
St Andrew’s has been granted the Silver Eco-Church Award. Many thanks to Dawn, Jill, Paul, Selina and Veronika: our wonderful Eco-team for this achievement.
As we look forward to our Palm Sunday re-enactment of the passion story, we are looking for volunteer performers, seamstresses and prop makers. Anyone who would like to help in any way should speak to Greg, Selina or Kate Howarth. Actors should be 8+.
Our annual Passover service/meal takes place on Monday 26th March at 7pm. For catering purposes, if you wish to attend, please sign on the list at the back of church. Please don’t leave this till the last minute because there is a limit to our capacity. There is a special role for children at the meal, so children’s attendance is warmly encouraged.
On Tuesday of Holy Week (the 27th) there will be a service at 7pm with music and readings commemorating the Passion of our Lord. If you would like to read at this service, please speak to Greg.
Service of Light
Anyone willing to act as sidesperson or reader at the Service of Light, the first communion of Easter on Holy Saturday should speak to Greg.
If you would like to make a donation towards the cost of the Easter flowers please see Ann Dove.
To raise funds for the church we intend to hold an Easter raffle and would be grateful for donations of prizes. If you are able to donate please pass you item(s) to Charley Watts or Linda Chylinski. Thank you.
Weekly Giving Envelopes
Thanks to everyone who donates each week to St Andrew’s and St Andy’s using the Weekly Giving Envelopes. April sees the start of a new Tax Year so new boxes of envelopes for the next twelve months are at the back of the church. Should anyone wish to join the envelope scheme please contact Richard Marr (01676 522697). Regular giving by envelope or by Standing Order helps us plan the church’s finances in the coming year and we are most grateful to all those who give regularly every week or every month. If you are a regular giver and a tax payer but haven’t already completed a Gift Aid Form, please do so as soon as possible to enable us to recover the tax you have already paid on your giving. Should you wish to increase the amount you put in the weekly envelopes or your Standing Order, please do so any time as you do not need to complete a new Gift Aid Form. Last year we recovered £13383 from the Inland Revenue as a result of your Gift Aid Giving.
St Andrew’s Choir
On February 12th, St Andrew’s PCC took the difficult decision to ask our wonderful choir to retire at Easter. While this decision was almost unanimous, it was not taken without recognizing that it would be painful for some members of the choir and congregation. The decision was taken after a period of consultation with the choir and much prayer. We were mindful that choir numbers have reduced in recent years, with the loss of two younger members in the past months; and with ill health an increasing factor affecting attendance. Our intention is that Dawn Easthope should remain as Director of Music and to recruit a Festival Choir from among the existing choir and wider congregation to sing on special occasions e.g. Easter/Christmas/Harvest. We would especially like to host a Songs of Praise service in the summer. There is no plan to change our style of worship, nor any other hidden agenda. Greg is willing to visit anyone to talk further one to one and pray.
On Saturday 31st March at 9.15am we will be decorating the church for Easter. Volunteers required please. If you can help, please let me know. Thank you, Ann Dove.
Kidz Klub – Admin Volunteer Needed
Although we have a paid administrator at Kidz Klub, the time we pay for doesn’t quite cover all the many things to do, so to help take the pressure off we’d love it if someone would do a day or half a day of admin voluntarily for us. We have provided a job description detailing the tasks we’d be looking for someone to do. They don’t need to have all the skills on the list – we can tailor the role to suit the individual. Please see the red folder at the back of church for further details.
Brandon’s Natural Way – Memorial Garden Fundraiser
“I Bake it – You Take It” – today, 2pm – 4pm at Eastern Green Village Hall. In memory of Brandon a little boy from St Andrew’s Infant C of E School who passed away suddenly before Christmas. All funds will go towards creating an everlasting memory of Brandon within the school grounds by way of a memorial garden to honour this little boy’s true love of the outdoors and nature. If you would like to buy raffle tickets Gary/Daniel will be selling them 50p a ticket/£2.50 a book.
Children’s Society Boxes
If you have a box, please either bring to Church and ensure it is left in the vestry for me to collect, or I will collect from your home. I take this opportunity to thank you all for your continuing support for this worthy charity. God bless you all. Jackie Lynch

We meet at the Vicarage, are served a wonderful home cooked meal, make new friends, listen to a talk on a key aspect of the Christian faith and then take part in a small group discussion with a handful of others who are seeking to know more and share their doubts and questions. The talks are designed to encourage conversation and explore the basics of the Christian faith in a friendly, open and informal environment. The evenings start at 7pm and the course runs over eight weeks, with an Away Day during that eight-week period. If you would like more information or want to join the course please speak with Greg Smith or Sue Masters 07958 322026 or email@example.com

General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR)
On the 25th May 2018, General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) will replace the Data Protection Act of 1998. The good news is that the GDPR main concepts and principles are very similar to those contained in the current act. As a church we take the responsibility of your personal data very seriously, with the new rules coming into effect, we must contain consent to hold your personal information. At any point you can ask for all data being held on you, and for all information to be removed. The information will only be shared by the leadership team for activities within the church or pastoral needs. Consent forms are being distributed over the next couple of weeks, please ensure these are returned to Becky Crowe or Linda Chylinski.

Retreat in Daily Life
St. Andrew’s will be holding a Retreat in Daily Life, commencing Sunday 14th April 2018. Such retreats offer an opportunity to commit to a period of more intentional prayer, while continuing our normal routines. For further information, please see the Leaflet “A Coventry Retreat in Daily Life” or have a word with Lesley Lee.
Those who knew her will be sad to learn of the death of Pat Trickett from cancer last week. Pat is a much loved friend of St Andrew’s having led the Nightingales who performed many fundraising Christmas concerts at the church over the years.
The next Archdeacon Pastor, Sue Field, the first woman ever to be selected for a senior post in Coventry Diocese is to be inducted at Coventry Cathedral this afternoon 18th March at 4pm. All are welcome to attend. If you are thinking of going along, please speak to Greg.
Anyone who is able to help out at Kidz Klub on Tuesday 27th March from 5-6.15pm to help with refreshments etc. should contact Sarah Adamson at firstname.lastname@example.org. Kidz Klub is based at Limbrick Wood Baptist Church and is supported by St Andrew’s in prayer and with occasional financial support because of their commitment to sharing God’s love with the children of Tile Hill.
After nearly two years of delay, we are now in a position to press forward with plans to remove the font (which will be interred in the churchyard) and replace it with a wooden, portable font. We are immensely grateful to Stan & Beryl Cooper who have agreed to pay for this in memory of their baby daughter; and to Frank Dove who has undertaken to craft the new stand for the font. Please speak to Trevor Hill if you have any queries.
Christians Against Poverty
Are looking for volunteers to act as befrienders, who will accompany one of the Christians Against Poverty staff as they visit clients in the area who are trying to free themselves from debt. For further information, contact IanBurton@CAPUK.org or speak to Greg.
We are looking to recruit an additional audio-visual operator to join our select team of Steve and Paul. This would only require a once in a while commitment on a Sunday morning to cover holidays. Full training provided. Concentration is the most important gift needed!
Barbara Warner is looking for a volunteer to share the role of coordinating link deliveries, perhaps on a month about basis. The role entails bundling the links up when they arrive towards the end of the month and recruiting new deliverers as necessary. For further information, please speak to Greg or Barbara at email@example.com
Thanks to all those who supported the Quiz Night on Friday. Refunds will be returned within the week to anyone who was not able to make the revised date.
Please remember to close the main door and windows when not in use. This will help to keep the church warmer during colder months and save on energy bills.
Next Sunday the clocks go forward an hour. Please don’t be late for our Palm Sunday Service. At 9.55am, we will congregate outside Fay’s farm and then re-enact the entry into Jerusalem on the first Palm Sunday. Anyone not able to manage the walk down the drive is welcome to wait in the church for our dramatic telling of the Passion story to begin.
