25th March 2018 – Palm Sunday
St Andrew’s Church welcomes allcomers, whether this is your first time or thousandth time in church. You are welcome whatever your age, gender, marital status, disability, race or sexuality. You are welcome whether you have a deep and mature faith in Christ; are uncertain and still seeking; or have no faith. If you are new to church, please do take a welcome leaflet to be found in the pews; and do not hesitate to ask one of the welcomers if you have any queries.
The Spring Term programme for Children’s Church finishes today. We will not be using the school hall during the school holiday, but there will be a craft box in the side room for children to use during the Eucharist services. We will do our best to support the craft activities, but parents are asked to check that there is a Children’s Church volunteer present before sending children into the side room. Parents are very welcome to support their children with the activities. Children’s Church will open again on 15th April when we will begin a series of sessions about Isaac and his family. We look forward to welcoming the children back next term. We have space for more primary aged children and parents are encouraged to join us while their children settle in.
To Jon & Tracey who were married at St Andrew’s last Saturday.
Please note Wednesday Communion on 4th April has been cancelled.
On Saturday 31st March at 9.15am we will be decorating the church for Easter. Volunteers required please. If you can help, please let me know. Thank you, Ann Dove.
If you would like to make a donation towards the cost of the Easter flowers please see Ann Dove.
The Link is ready for collection in the side room, if you deliver or are able to take to someone who does near to you, we would be grateful if you could take the bundle for delivery. If anyone should have incorrect numbers or their bundle is missing please contact Barbara Warner. Thank you.
To raise funds for the church we intend to hold an Easter raffle and would be grateful for donations of prizes. If you are able to donate please pass you item(s) to Charley Watts or Linda Chylinski. Thank you.
Weekly Giving Envelopes
Thanks to everyone who donates each week to St Andrew’s and St Andy’s using the Weekly Giving Envelopes. April sees the start of a new Tax Year so new boxes of envelopes for the next twelve months are at the back of the church. Should anyone wish to join the envelope scheme please contact Richard Marr (01676 522697). Regular giving by envelope or by Standing Order helps us plan the church’s finances in the coming year and we are most grateful to all those who give regularly every week or every month. If you are a regular giver and a tax payer but haven’t already completed a Gift Aid Form, please do so as soon as possible to enable us to recover the tax you have already paid on your giving. Should you wish to increase the amount you put in the weekly envelopes or your Standing Order, please do so any time as you do not need to complete a new Gift Aid Form. Last year we recovered £13383 from the Inland Revenue as a result of your Gift Aid Giving.

We meet at the Vicarage, are served a wonderful home cooked meal, make new friends, listen to a talk on a key aspect of the Christian faith and then take part in a small group discussion with a handful of others who are seeking to know more and share their doubts and questions. The talks are designed to encourage conversation and explore the basics of the Christian faith in a friendly, open and informal environment. Retreat in Daily Life
St. Andrew’s will be holding a Retreat in Daily Life, commencing Sunday 14th April 2018. Such retreats offer an opportunity to commit to a period of more intentional prayer, while continuing our normal routines. For further information, please see the Leaflet “A Coventry Retreat in Daily Life” or have a word with Lesley Lee.
General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR)
On the 25th May 2018, General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) will replace the Data Protection Act of 1998. The good news is that the GDPR main concepts and principles are very similar to those contained in the current act. As a church we take the responsibility of your personal data very seriously, with the new rules coming into effect, we must contain consent to hold your personal information. At any point you can ask for all data being held on you, and for all information to be removed. The information will only be shared by the leadership team for activities within the church or pastoral needs. Consent forms are being distributed over the next couple of weeks, please ensure these are returned to Becky Crowe or Linda Chylinski.
St Andrew’s has been granted the Silver Eco-Church Award. Many thanks to Dawn, Jill, Paul, Selina and Veronika: our wonderful Eco-team for this achievement.

Those who knew her will be sad to learn of the death of Pat Trickett from cancer last week. Pat is a much-loved friend of St Andrew’s having led the Nightingales who performed many fundraising Christmas concerts at the church over the years.
After nearly two years of delay, we are now in a position to press forward with plans to remove the font (which will be interred in the churchyard) and replace it with a wooden, portable font. We are immensely grateful to Stan & Beryl Cooper who have agreed to pay for this in memory of their baby daughter; and to Frank Dove who has undertaken to craft the new stand for the font. Please speak to Trevor Hill if you have any queries.
Our Easter Pram Service takes place on Tuesday 27th March at 9.15am (doors open from 8.45am). The service is aimed at pre-school children and their carers with craft, song and stories.

Car theft seems to be prevalent in the Eastern Green and Allesley Green area as car thieves target higher end cars. One tactic thieves use is to place a half brick outside a property, which police advise is a technique they use to identify a targeted vehicle. Please be vigilant for yourselves and your neighbours.
A petition has been raised, following the decision to no longer employ a Lollipop lady on Hockley Lane, to ask the City Council to install a crossing to ensure the safety of our children. This may be viewed online at https://myaccount.coventry.gov.uk/Petitions. There is also a paper copy of the petition at the back of church.
We are looking to recruit an additional audio-visual operator to join our select team of Steve and Paul. This would only require a once in a while commitment on a Sunday morning to cover holidays. Full training provided. Concentration is the most important gift needed!

The role entails bundling the links up when they arrive towards the end of the month and recruiting new deliverers as necessary.
