1st April 2018 – Easter Sunday
St Andrew’s Church welcomes allcomers, whether this is your first time or thousandth time in church. You are welcome whatever your age, gender, marital status, disability, race or sexuality. You are welcome whether you have a deep and mature faith in Christ; are uncertain and still seeking; or have no faith. If you are new to church, please do take a welcome leaflet to be found in the pews; and do not hesitate to ask one of the welcomers if you have any queries.
Children’s Church will not be meeting in the school hall today or next Sunday (8-4-2018), but there is a box of craft activities in the side room which children may use during the service if they wish. We will do our best to ensure that there is a Children’s Church volunteer on hand, but parents are asked to check before sending their children into the sideroom. Children’s Church opens again on 15th April. We look forward to welcoming the children back. We have room for more pre-school and primary aged children. For more information phone Hilary on 07980 596646. Please note that Children’s Church will not be meeting in the school hall on 22nd April as leaders will be away at the Parish Weekend. We will provide the usual craft activity box in the sideroom on that day.
Very grateful thanks to all those who came and helped to decorate the church for Easter. Also, thank you to those who gave donations towards the cost of the flowers. Ann Dove.
St Andrew’s has been granted the Silver Eco-Church Award. Many thanks to Dawn, Jill, Paul, Selina and Veronika: our wonderful Eco-team for this achievement.
Grateful thanks to our wonderful Palm Sunday team for last Sunday’s re-enactment of the Passion story. Special thanks to Selina, our Director, Kate, our Stage Manager and Steve, our technical director.
Forget me Not
Our fortnightly group for people living with dementia next meets on Tuesday 10th April at 2pm. All welcome. For further details, please speak to Rita.
Please note that Greg and Phil will be both on holiday immediately after Easter. The Church Office will also be closed. Please contact Sue Masters in an emergency.
Please note there is no Kidz Praise service on April 5th (the next one being April 19th).
Please note that there is no Wednesday Communion service this Wednesday, April 4th.
The annual meeting of the church takes place on Monday 16th April at 7.30pm preceded by a short service of Holy Communion at 7pm. We warmly encourage everyone to come along and hear all that has happened in the life of St Andrews/St Andy’s over the last 12 months. There will be vacancies on the PCC and for Deanery Synod. Please pray about taking up a place.
Today is the last chance to join the electoral roll. Anyone who has attended St Andrew’s/St Andy’s regularly over the last 6 months is entitled to join. Please see Greg or Lesley Harrison for a form, which can be filled in within a few moments. The electoral roll effectively makes you a full member of the church.
After nearly two years of delay, we are now in a position to press forward with plans to remove the font (which will be interred in the churchyard) and replace it with a wooden, portable font. We are immensely grateful to Stan & Beryl Cooper who have agreed to pay for this in memory of their baby daughter; and to Frank Dove who has undertaken to craft the new stand for the font. Please speak to Trevor Hill if you have any queries.
Our Easter Pram Service takes place on Tuesday 10th April at 9.15 a.m. (doors open from 8.45am). The service is aimed at pre-school children and their carers with craft, song and stories.
BCDM at St Andrew’s
St. Andrew’s is hosting the following BCDM Module starting on 18th April 2018 – Jesus and the Gospels. This module will look at each of the four gospels in turn, so that you have the opportunity to get to grips with the unique approach to Jesus that each one of them offers. By the end of the module, you will have read all four gospels and you will find fresh ways of talking about what Jesus means to you. There will be five sessions held on Wednesday evenings from 7.15pm to 9.30pm from 18th April to 16th May. There is no cost for members of St Andrew’s / St.Andy’s. If you would like to know more please speak with Sue Masters (07958322026) or sign up on the diocesan website www.dioceseofcoventry.org/BCDMregister
Weekly Giving Envelopes
Thanks to everyone who donates each week to St Andrew’s and St Andy’s using the Weekly Giving Envelopes. April sees the start of a new Tax Year so new boxes of envelopes for the next twelve months are at the back of the church. Should anyone wish to join the envelope scheme please contact Richard Marr (01676 522697). Regular giving by envelope or by Standing Order helps us plan the church’s finances in the coming year and we are most grateful to all those who give regularly every week or every month. If you are a regular giver and a tax payer but haven’t already completed a Gift Aid Form, please do so as soon as possible to enable us to recover the tax you have already paid on your giving. Should you wish to increase the amount you put in the weekly envelopes or your Standing Order, please do so any time as you do not need to complete a new Gift Aid Form. Last year we recovered £13383 from the Inland Revenue as a result of your Gift Aid Giving.

We meet at the Vicarage, are served a wonderful home cooked meal, make new friends, listen to a talk on a key aspect of the Christian faith and then take part in a small group discussion with a handful of others who are seeking to know more and share their doubts and questions. The talks are designed to encourage conversation and explore the basics of the Christian faith in a friendly, open and informal environment. The evenings start at 7pm and the course runs over eight weeks, with an Away Day during that eight-week period. Retreat in Daily Life
St. Andrew’s will be holding a Retreat in Daily Life, commencing Sunday 14th April 2018. General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR)
On the 25th May 2018, General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) will replace the Data Protection Act of 1998. The good news is that the GDPR main concepts and principles are very similar to those contained in the current act. As a church we take the responsibility of your personal data very seriously, with the new rules coming into effect, we must contain consent to hold your personal information. At any point you can ask for all data being held on you, and for all information to be removed. The information will only be shared by the leadership team for activities within the church or pastoral needs. Consent forms are being distributed over the next couple of weeks, please ensure these are returned to Becky Crowe or Linda Chylinski.
We are looking for a large tent or Gazebo that can be used at Party in the Park on May 7th as a Prayer Tent. Anyone able to help should speak to Greg or Veronika.
Anyone willing to make cakes for Party in the Park on May 7th should speak to Fran. The more the better!
Seek His Face
Our monthly gathering for prayer, praise and prophecy takes place next Sunday, April 8th, at 6.30pm. All welcome.
We would like to supplement our small team of altar servers, who set up the altar for communion on an occasional basis. If you are able to help, please speak to Greg, Steve Wankling or Rita.
Car theft seems to be prevalent in the Eastern Green and Allesley Green area as car thieves target higher end cars. One tactic thieves use is to place a half brick outside a property, which police advise is a technique they use to identify a targeted vehicle. Please be vigilant for yourselves and your neighbours.
We are sad to announce the death of Pam Bennell, a much-loved member of St Andy’s who died on Friday 23rd March. Her funeral will take place at St Andrew’s on Thursday May 3rd at 10.30am. Please pray for Alan and the rest of the family.
A petition has been raised, following the decision to no longer employ a Lollipop lady on Hockley Lane, to ask the City Council to install a crossing to ensure the safety of our children. This may be viewed online at https://myaccount.coventry.gov.uk/Petitions – there is also a paper copy of the petition at the back of church.
We are looking to recruit an additional audio-visual operator to join our select team of Steve and Paul. This would only require a once in a while commitment on a Sunday morning to cover holidays. Full training provided. Concentration is the most important gift needed!
Barbara Warner is looking for a volunteer to share the role of coordinating link deliveries, perhaps on a month about basis. The role entails bundling the links up when they arrive towards the end of the month and recruiting new deliverers as necessary. For further information, please speak to Greg or Barbara at firstname.lastname@example.org
