15th April 2018 – The Third Sunday of Easter
St Andrew’s Church welcomes allcomers, whether this is your first time or thousandth time in church. You are welcome whatever your age, gender, marital status, disability, race or sexuality. You are welcome whether you have a deep and mature faith in Christ; are uncertain and still seeking; or have no faith. If you are new to church, please do take a welcome leaflet to be found in the pews; and do not hesitate to ask one of the welcomers if you have any queries.
Many of us will be away at the Parish Weekend in Staffordshire. Grateful thanks to Nick who will be leading a service of Morning Prayer at the usual time of 10am.
Children’s Church will not be meeting in the school hall next week (22nd April) as leaders will be away at the Parish Weekend. We will provide the usual craft activity box in the side room. Parents are very welcome to help their children with the activities. Children’s Church will be open again as normal on 29th April.
Following the retirement of the choir, we want to consult the congregation about the best way forward for worship leading in the years ahead. There is therefore a short survey about this available at the back of church. Please complete this if you can and return by the end of the month. Feel free to write additional comments although it would be helpful if these were relatively brief.
The Party in the Park raffle is now open, with a wonderful array of prizes that includes a Spa Day for 2 at the Windmill Hotel; a meal for 2 at Fairways Restaurant and a Golf Day for 4 at West Midlands Golf Club.Tickets are £1 a strip and available from Lin Chylinski or Rita Muir.
Charley and Linda would like to thank everyone who helped to make our Easter raffle a success. That is to those who very kindly donated raffle prizes and also to all who bought tickets. Without you all we would not have raised the £231 that we did. We hope all the winners enjoyed their prizes and monies raised have helped to boost St Andrew’s funds. Thank you.

BCDM at St Andrew’s
St. Andrew’s is hosting the following BCDM Module starting on 18th April 2018 – Jesus and the Gospels. This module will look at each of the four gospels in turn, so that you have the opportunity to get to grips with the unique approach to Jesus that each one of them offers. By the end of the module, you will have read all four gospels and you will find fresh ways of talking about what Jesus means to you. There will be five sessions held on Wednesday evenings from 7.15pm to 9.30pm from 18th April to 16th May. There is no cost for members of St Andrew’s/St.Andy’s. If you would like to know more please speak with Sue Masters (07958322026) or sign up on the diocesan website www.dioceseofcoventry.org/BCDMregister
St Andrew’s has been granted the Silver Eco-Church Award. Many thanks to Dawn, Jill, Paul, Selina and Veronika: our wonderful Eco-team for this achievement.
Forget me Not
Our fortnightly group for people living with dementia and their carers next meets on Tuesday 24th April at 2pm. All welcome. For further details, please speak to Rita.
The next Kidz Praise service will take place on Thursday 19th April at 4pm for parents and primary school children. From 3.15-4pm there are craft activities, games, songs and toasts. The short service of story, prayers and song starts at 4pm. Our theme is the Secret Baby. All welcome to arrive any time up to 4pm.
The annual meeting of the church takes place tomorrow, Monday 16th April, at 7.30pm preceded by a short service of Holy Communion at 7pm. We warmly encourage everyone to come along and hear all that has happened in the life of St Andrew’s/St Andy’s over the last 12 months. There will be vacancies on the PCC and for Deanery Synod. Please pray about taking up a place.
After nearly two years of delay, we are now in a position to press forward with plans to remove the font (which will be interred in the churchyard) and replace it with a wooden, portable font. We are immensely grateful to Stan & Beryl Cooper who have agreed to pay for this in memory of their baby daughter; and to Frank Dove who has undertaken to craft the new stand for the font. Please speak to Trevor Hill if you have any queries.
Our next Pram Service takes place on Tuesday 24th April at 9.15am (doors open from 8.45am). The service is aimed at pre-school children and their carers with craft, song and stories.
Alpha Course 2018
Want to learn more about Jesus, the Bible, faith? Why not be part of the Alpha Course which starts on Wednesday 23rd May. We meet at the Vicarage, are served a wonderful home cooked meal, make new friends, listen to a talk on a key aspect of the Christian faith and then take part in a small group discussion with a handful of others who are seeking to know more and share their doubts and questions. The talks are designed to encourage conversation and explore the basics of the Christian faith in a friendly, open and informal environment. The evenings start at 7pm and the course runs over eight weeks, with an Away Day during that eight-week period. If you would like more information or want to join the course please speak with Greg Smith or Sue Masters 07958 322026 or firstname.lastname@example.org
Allesley Green Prayer
The small group who meet to pray for Allesley Green on the fourth Tuesday of the month welcomes new members. Our next gathering for an hour is at 7.45pm on 24th April at 27 Polperro Drive. All welcome.
We are looking for a large tent or Gazebo that can be used at Party in the Park on May 7th as a Prayer Tent. Anyone able to help should speak to Greg or Veronika.
Anyone willing to make cakes or savouries e.g. sausage rolls for Party in the Park on May 7th should speak to Fran. The more the better!
We would like to supplement our small team of altar servers, who set up the altar for communion on an occasional basis. If you are able to help, please speak to Greg, Steve Wankling or Rita.
Car theft seems to be prevalent in the Eastern Green and Allesley Green area as car thieves target higher end cars. One tactic thieves use is to place a half brick outside a property, which police advise is a technique they use to identify a targeted vehicle. Please be vigilant for yourselves and your neighbours.
We are sad to announce the death of Pam Bennell, a much-loved member of St Andy’s who died on Friday 23rd March. Her funeral will take place at St Andrews on Thursday May 3rd at 10.30am. Please pray for Alan and the rest of the family.
We are looking to recruit an additional audio-visual operator to join our select team of Steve and Paul. This would only require a once in a while commitment on a Sunday morning to cover holidays. Full training provided. Concentration is the most important gift needed!
Many thanks to Gill Tunnicliffe who has kindly agreed to share the responsibility for coordinating the delivery of the Link magazine with Barbara Warner. We currently have three rounds needing a deliverer. If you can spare half an hour once a month, please speak to Gill or Barbara about this.
We praise God that Tako N’Gambi is now out of hospital after 9 months; and also for Darren Lee (Lesley’s son) successful operation.
This week’s altar flowers were kindly donated by Hazel and Frank Elks.
Please pray for Jan Roberts, Jill Vernon, Sandra Watts, Bette Thorpe, Lynnette Clarke, Tako N’gambi, Darren Lee, Ann Crowley, Norah Hall, Andrew Rennie, George Cooke, Flix Haynes, Fred Edwards, Derek Shale, Jean Selby, Colin & Pauline Smith, Beryl Poppit, Lara Santostefano and Rosemary Pottinger.
