22nd April 2018 – The Fourth Sunday of Easter
St Andrew’s Church welcomes allcomers, whether this is your first time or thousandth time in church. You are welcome whatever your age, gender, marital status, disability, race or sexuality. You are welcome whether you have a deep and mature faith in Christ; are uncertain and still seeking; or have no faith. If you are new to church, please do take a welcome leaflet to be found in the pews; and do not hesitate to ask one of the welcomers if you have any queries.
To Nick Tooby for taking the service of Morning Prayer today, while many of us enjoy the sunshine at the Parish Weekend in Staffordshire.
At the Annual Meeting, Becky Crowe and Nick Tooby were elected as churchwardens. Jill Pinks was elected as a Deanery Synod Rep and the following were elected to the PCC: Trevor Hill, Jeremy Thomas, Richard Marr, Hilary Wankling, Paul Crowe, Gill Tunnicliffe, John Ross-Barnard, Kate Dagger, Rita Muir, Linda Chylinski. Please pray for them as they take on this responsibility. Copies of the annual report and Treasurer’s Report are available at the back of church. Please free to take these away, although the annual report should be returned within a week.
After many, many years Diane Wilson has decided to hang up her mop. She has epitomised loyalty and professionalism in this role. In replacing her, we want to investigate whether it might be possible to recruit a band of volunteers to clean for an hour once a week. We probably need 5 people altogether to allow volunteers to take a week off when necessary. If you are interested in helping, please speak to Greg, Diane or Jackie Lynch.
We are looking to put together a choir for the wedding on 5th May at 12 noon. If you would be willing to be part of the choir for this wedding please either speak to Rebecca Martin or contact Julie, the Parish Administrator, on 07756 91884 or email@example.com. Please add your name to the list at the back of church.
David & Frances Hawkey
June Clarke has advised that after a recent visit to David and Frances Hawkey they would like to say ‘hello’ to their friends at St Andrew’s.
Alpha Course 2018
Want to learn more about Jesus, the Bible, faith? Why not be part of the Alpha Course which starts on Wednesday 23rd May. We meet at the Vicarage, are served a wonderful home cooked meal, make new friends, listen to a talk on a key aspect of the Christian faith and then take part in a small group discussion with a handful of others who are seeking to know more and share their doubts and questions. The talks are designed to encourage conversation and explore the basics of the Christian faith in a friendly, open and informal environment. The evenings start at 7pm and the course runs over eight weeks, with an Away Day during that eight-week period. If you would like more information or want to join the course please speak with Greg Smith or Sue Masters 07958 322026 or firstname.lastname@example.org
Alpha Caterers Needed
The Alpha course runs for 8 weeks at the Vicarage from 23rd May to 11th July. We are looking for volunteers to provide a meal, help to serve and clear away after the meal. Caterers would be paid for each evening catered for. If you would be willing to cater for one evening (or more) please contact the Parish Administrator on 07756 918847 or email@example.com
Children’s Society Boxes
My thanks to all loyal supporters of this worthy charity. The boxes have been emptied and counted and a grand total of £1208.04 has been sent to help rescue disadvantaged and abused children. It is amazing how loose change can amount to so much! Thanks again, see you next year. Please contact Jackie Lynch on 76467344, if you would like to become a supporter.
Message from Norah Hall
I have been overwhelmed by all the prayers and good wishes from everyone at Church. Thank you all very much for your ongoing thoughts and prayers, which have certainly given me the strength to carry on. Please continue to pray for me. God Bless you all. Thanks again, Norah x
WORKCARE has been supplying Workplace Chaplains to the Coventry and Warwickshire area since 1947. We require Christians who are able to offer their time to become Workplace Chaplains. They will regularly visit workplaces and be a ‘listening ear’ to those who work there at all levels. they will receive out of pocket expense, transport costs and vehicle mileage. We have openings now at Jaguar Land Rover (Whitley site) and from July/August at the Gaydon site both in the Coventry area. There will be more opportunities to join our team shortly. More details from our Development Officer on: 07903 129501 or email firstname.lastname@example.org / website: www.workcare.org. Please get in touch about learning more about Workcare, hearing about Workcare’s ‘WORK AWARE’ training and supporting Workcare financially.
St Andrew’s has been granted the Silver Eco-Church Award. Many thanks to Dawn, Jill, Paul, Selina and Veronika: our wonderful Eco-team for this achievement.
Forget me Not
Our fortnightly group for people living with dementia and their carers next meets on Tuesday 24th April at 2pm. All welcome. For further details, please speak to Rita.
A mobility scooter, free to a good home, is available. If you or anyone you know needs this, please speak to Greg.
Village Hall Car Park
The Village Hall/Eastern Green club carpark will be out of use for 2 weeks, while resurfacing takes place. Please consider our neighbours as you seek alternative parking.
After nearly two years of delay, we are now in a position to press forward with plans to remove the font (which will be interred in the churchyard) and replace it with a wooden, portable font. We are immensely grateful to Stan & Beryl Cooper who have agreed to pay for this in memory of their baby daughter; and to Frank Dove who has undertaken to craft the new stand for the font. Please speak to Trevor Hill if you have any queries.
Our next Pram Service takes place on Tuesday 24th April at 9.15am (doors open from 8.45am). The service is aimed at pre-school children and their carers with craft, song and stories.
Allesley Green Prayer
The small group who meet to pray for Allesley Green on the fourth Tuesday of the month welcomes new members. Our next gathering for an hour is at 7.45pm on 24th April at 27 Polperro Drive. All welcome.
We are looking for a large tent or Gazebo that can be used at Party in the Park on May 7th as a Prayer Tent. Anyone able to help should speak to Greg or Veronika.
Anyone willing to make cakes or savouries e.g. sausage rolls for Party in the Park on May 7th should speak to Fran. The more the better!
Party in the Park Volunteers
St Andrew’s is always very generous in providing volunteers for Party in the Park. We trust this year will be no exception. We need people to help set up at 9.30am through to 11am. Some heavy lifting included. We also need lots of people to staff stalls during the afternoon. Please let Greg know if you are able to help.
We would like to supplement our small team of altar servers, who set up the altar for communion on an occasional basis. If you are able to help, please speak to Greg, Steve Wankling or Rita.
We are looking to recruit an additional audio-visual operator to join our select team of Steve and Paul. This would only require a once in a while commitment on a Sunday morning to cover holidays. Full training provided. Concentration is the most important gift needed!
Thy Kingdom Come
An international prayer movement, initiated by the Archbishop of Canterbury three years ago, is now embraced by millions. Each year between the Ascension (May 10th) and Pentecost (May 20th) churches are encouraged to pray for the coming of the Kingdom. You can pledge to pray as an individual or family at https://www.thykingdomcome.global/. You are also encouraged to come along on Saturday May 12th any time between 3 – 5pm when there will be prayer stations available to help you pray. Anyone, who would like devotional material to help them pray through this 10 day period can obtain it via the website.
Many thanks to Gill Tunnicliffe who has kindly agreed to share the responsibility for coordinating the delivery of the Link magazine with Barbara Warner.
