Pews News – 13th January 2019

13th January 2019 – The Second Sunday of Epiphany

Welcome
St Andrew’s Church welcomes allcomers, whether this is your first time or thousandth time in church. You are welcome whatever your age, gender, marital status, disability, race or sexuality. You are welcome whether you have a deep and mature faith in Christ; are uncertain and still seeking; or have no faith. If you are new to church, please do take a welcome leaflet to be found in the pews; and do not hesitate to ask one of the welcomers if you have any queries.

Greg and Fran wish to express the deepest thanks to all those who have sent cards, presents and good wishes over the Christmas and New Year

Thanks
To all who took on extra duties at Christmas: cleaning, reading, offering refreshments, acting as sides people etc.

Toy Service
What a fantastic response to our Toy appeal this year (special mention to Martin Neale, who brought hundreds of toys). These have now gone to Coventry City Mission to be distributed across the city to children who otherwise would have little or nothing at Christmas. 80 families in the local area received presents through your generosity.

Children’s Council
The next meeting of the Children’s Council is on Wednesday 23rd January at 7.15pm in the side room. We will be discussing how we can make provision for our 10-13 year olds. Please speak to Hilary if you are interested in leading or supporting activities for this age group or if you have any ideas you are willing to share.

Flower List
The new flower list for 2019 is now at the back of church and has only 10 spaces left. If you would like to pay for flowers for a particular week, please fill your name in as soon as possible. Unfortunately, the cost of the flowers will be £12 per week, £10 is no longer feasible. Thank you, Ann Dove.

BCDM Module on Prayer
St Andrew’s Church is hosting a BCDM Module again this year and the theme is Prayer. This interactive module will give opportunities to learn about as well as participate in different styles, methods and experiences of prayer. It will look at prayers in the Bible, different types and styles of prayer, the links between different spiritualities and methods of prayer and active methods of praying such as ‘prayer walks’ and ‘prayer stations’. Running during Lent this is an opportunity open to everyone to focus on prayer and on ways to develop your prayer life.  Dates and Time: Thursday evenings 7:00-9:30pm, 7th March – 4th April. If you want to participate you need to register www.dioceseofcoventry.org/BCDMregister. If you want to know more please speak with Sue Masters.

Pastoral Care Meeting
Wednesday 16th January at St Andrew’s Church in the side room at 2pm. Contact Lynnette Clarke Tel. 07890 048210.

Lunch n Chat Mark 2
Lunch n Chat which has been running for over 10 years has been extremely successful in providing comfort and company to those newly bereaved. Because of the success of the group, we are launching a parallel group on Tuesday lunch times on 26th February. If you know anyone who is newly bereaved and might wish to come along, please put them in touch with us.

Christine Rees (nee Wastell)
Eastern Greeners may remember Christine Wastell who sadly died just before Christmas at the age of 65. Her funeral takes place in church next Tuesday 15th January at 2.30pm. All welcome to attend.

Cleaning Team Holiday Cover
We would be grateful for one to two people to join the loyal band of cleaners on an occasional basis as holiday cover. If you’re able to help, please speak to Jackie Lynch.

Font Remains
The removal of the old stone font has resulted in the base, which was made of very high-quality stone, being rendered into pieces large and small which have been deposited behind the church. Anyone who wants to use either the larger pieces decoratively or the smaller pieces as rubble is welcome to help themselves. We would encourage a voluntary contribution to church funds by way of payment.

Altar Flowers
This week’s altar flowers were kindly donated by Hilary and Steve Wankling.

Prayer List
Please pray for Derek Shale, Flix Haynes, Norah Hall, Mary Lee, Dennis Sinclair, Josie Yates, Ann Crowley, Stan Cooper, Beryl Lee and Rosemary Pottinger. To add names to the list please contact Julie at administrator@standrews-eg.org.uk or 07756 918847.
