14th April 2019 – Palm Sunday
St Andrew’s Church welcomes allcomers, whether this is your first time or thousandth time in church. You are welcome whatever your age, gender, marital status, disability, race or sexuality. You are welcome whether you have a deep and mature faith in Christ; are uncertain and still seeking; or have no faith. If you are new to church, please do take a welcome leaflet to be found in the pews; and do not hesitate to ask one of the welcomers if you have any queries.
Children’s Church will not be meeting in the school hall today (Palm Sunday) or next week (Easter Day). We hope the children will be able to experience some or all of the Passion drama today and the Easter Day communion service next week. There will, however, be craft activities available in the side room during both of these services. Some parental help will be most welcome. Children’s Church will open for the summer term on 28th April when we will be looking at the story of David from the Book of Samuel in the Old Testament. As always, there will be lots of games and craft activities to follow up the stories. We wish all of the children and their families a very happy Easter and look forward to seeing you all next term.
Thanks to those who attended our AGM last Monday. Becky Crowe and Nick Tooby were re-elected as churchwardens. The following were elected to the PCC: Julia McNaney, Linda Chylinski, Richard Marr, Paul Crowe, Rita Muir, Jill Pinks, Gill Tunnicliffe, Jeremy Thomas, Hilary Wankling, Rosemarie Over, Kate Dagger and Trevor Hill.
If you would like to make a donation towards the cost of the Easter flowers please see Ann Dove.
Rock Solid – calling all young people aged 10 – 14 years old!!
St Andrew’s and St Andy’s are starting a new and exciting youth group. It will be an evening of fun games, discussion and meeting new friends. The group will hold its first meeting on Sunday 5th May in the Scout Hut, Kenthurst Close, Eastern Green. We will meet between 6.30-8pm. The meetings will be every fortnight on a Sunday. We recognise it can be a bit scary going to something new, so why not bring a friend along. If you aren’t able too don’t worry, you will be able to make plenty of others. If you are planning to come along or you have any questions please phone text Nick on 07951 925772.
Annual Plant Sale
We will be holding our Annual Plant Sale on Saturday 27th April from 10am to 12 noon. Please do support this event and take the opportunity of obtaining plants very cheaply. If anyone would like to donate plants, ornamental pots etc. we can arrange collection. We should also be grateful for any help on the day, serving refreshments etc. If you can help please contact David, Trevor or Gill.
Seek His Face
Our monthly gathering for prayer, praise and prophecy takes place tonight at 6.30pm. All welcome.
Altar Setting Up
We have a small, dedicated band of altar servers, which needs additional people. Setting up the altar is fairly straightforward, and full training will be given. Volunteers will be asked to arrive at church for 9.30am. Please speak to Rita if you would like to know more.
Leaflets advertising our Easter programme are now available. Please note that the Passover Supper requires booking in advance by putting your name down on the sheet at the back of church on a first-come, first-served basis. There are only two places left. Anyone wishing to help by reading, setting up the altar or acting as sidespersons at our extra services should speak to Greg.
Walk of Witness
On Good Friday, we will be undertaking a walk of witness, following the cross from Sutton Avenue shops to St Oswald’s Church. We will gather at 11.30am and then participate in an ecumenical 15 minute service on the green outside St Oswald’s at 12 noon, followed by refreshments. Anyone able to walk a mile at a modest pace is welcome to join us. All welcome to the service outside St Oswald’s.
Party in the Park
We are looking for volunteers for Party in the Park on Monday 6th May from 1-5pm to help with stalls/rides. Please contact Greg or Julie if able to help for an hour or two.
Thanks to two generous grants, we are able to proceed with a much-needed refurbishment of our kitchen and side room. We have sufficient money to replace the carpet tiles in the side room with something similar, but have taken the view that a vinyl covering would be much longer lasting and much easier to clean. We are now within £100 of the target we need to raise. Many thanks to those who have been so generous. Any gifts should be placed into an envelope marked ‘kitchen’ and given to Greg or Jackie. If you are able to gift aid, this will add 25% to your gift at no extra cost.
There will be a sponsored ride and stride event on Saturday 14th September, starting at St Andrew’s and taking in 12-15 churches in the Diocese on the way to the most southern part of the diocese down in Shipston. Anyone is welcome to join us, either by walking or cycling or by becoming part of the wonderful support crew. You may walk the whole distance (approx. 40 miles) or just one leg from one church to another. Please see Greg or Veronika for further details.
Our next service for pre-schoolers and their carers is on Tuesday 23rd April. Doors open at 8.45am for tea and toast and craft activities, with stories, songs and prayer from 9.15am. We will be telling the story of Gideon.
Out next Kidz Praise service for Primary School children and their families takes place on Thursday 18th April. Tea and toast will be served from 3.15pm, when there will be craft and other activities. The service will begin by 4pm when we will be telling the Easter story.
Thought for the Day
We are looking to post a ‘Thought for the Day’ on our Facebook page to encourage readers in or into faith. If you would like to contribute something occasionally, please speak to Carys or Greg.
Kidz Klub Camp
In May half term, Kidz Klub are taking around ten children from Tile Hill and Canley Kidz Klubs on a camp to Viney Hill Christian Adventure Centre for two days. Many of the families can’t afford to pay the full cost of this but we don’t want that to exclude children from coming. The approximate cost per child is £75 (including accommodation, food, transport and activities). We are asking families to contribute a minimum of £10, which leaves us with £650 to raise. If you feel you are able to make a donation towards this trip please contact Sarah Adamson, Kidz Klub Coventry on 07890 868390.
Lunch n Chat Mark 2
Lunch n Chat which has been running for over 10 years has been extremely successful in providing comfort and company to those newly bereaved. Because of the success of the group, we have launched a parallel group on Tuesday lunch times on the 2nd and 4th Tuesdays of the month at 12 noon. If you know anyone who is newly bereaved and might wish to come along, please put them in touch with us.
Many thanks to all those who completed the discipleship survey. Results have been encouraging. 77% of the congregation now say they pray most days compared to 73% in 2015. 35% of the congregation say that they read the Bible most days compared to 28% in 2015. We seek to encourage you to do these things. Please let one of the clergy or Sue or Lesley know how we may support/encourage you in this.
