Pews News – 16th June 2019

16th June 2019 – Trinity Sunday & Father’s Day

Welcome
St Andrew’s Church welcomes allcomers, whether this is your first time or thousandth time in church. You are welcome whatever your age, gender, marital status, disability, race or sexuality. You are welcome whether you have a deep and mature faith in Christ; are uncertain and still seeking; or have no faith. If you are new to church, please do take a welcome leaflet to be found in the pews; and do not hesitate to ask one of the welcomers if you have any queries.

Holiday Club 2019
Following last year’s successful holiday club, we will be open once again for more crafts, games and fun for 5-11 year olds on Monday 22nd, Tuesday 23rd and Wednesday 24th July from 9am-2pm in Kenthurst Scout Hut. The cost will be £11 per day or £25 for all three days. To request a registration form, please contact either Emma or Julie during office hours 8am – 2pm Mon & Wed & 8am – 12 noon on Friday. Emma: 07969 066979 st_andrews_emma@outlook.com / Julie: 07756 918847 administrator@standrews-eg.org.uk

Holiday Club Volunteers
The Children’s Council are looking for a few more volunteers to help out with the holiday club on 22nd, 23rd and 24th July, 9am-2pm. It would be a help even if you can only volunteer for one day. You will need to have a DBS check and follow our safer recruitment procedure. For further information, please contact Hilary on 07980 596646.

Kitchen Refurb/Working Party
Volunteers needed to help with clearing the kitchen cupboards, side room and loft space prior to work starting on the new kitchen on Saturday 22nd June at 9.30am. If you are able to help then please speak to Nick Tooby or Trevor Hill. The kitchen will be out of action from Monday 24th June to Friday 12th July. On 26th & 27th June access beyond the double doors to the side room will not be possible because of floor screeding in process.

Serving those in Need
In June there will be a sermon series on Serving those in Need. To accompany the series there will be a mid-week session where we will explore the theme from that week’s sermon and look at how we as individuals, and as a church, can be people who serve those in need. The mid-week group will meet in church from 8-9.30pm and refreshments will be available from 7.30pm. The mid-week sessions are on the following dates and everyone is welcome to all or some of them:

Tuesday 18th June Material need
Tuesday 25th June Emotional need
Tuesday 2nd July Spiritual need

If you are interested or want to know more please speak with Greg or Sue Masters.

Book Club
Want to join a book club? We are starting one in July 2019 and everyone is welcome to come along. It will be held every two months either on a Saturday morning or an evening in the week, in church. This will be an opportunity to discuss the selected book and gain insight from others. We will start with Mere Christianity by C S Lewis. Each person will need a copy of the book and need to read it before we meet.

The first meetings will be on:

Saturday 6th July 9-10.30am (Light breakfast available)
Thursday 5th September 7.30-9.00pm

If you are interested please speak with Greg or Sue Masters

Beetle Drive
Our Beetle Drive was a great success and many thanks to all those from St Andy’s and St Andrew’s who came along and supported it – we had a fun evening with plenty of laughter, and look forward to holding another one later in the year. Thanks to Eileen for organising the raffle which with the ticket sales meant we raised a total of £125.

Stamps
I am collecting stamps for charity and should be grateful for any donations however small. You can either give them to me or leave in an envelope at the back of Church. Many thanks. Gill Tunnicliffe

Altar setting up
We have a small, dedicated band of altar servers, which needs additional people. Setting up the altar is fairly straightforward, and full training will be given. Volunteers will be asked to arrive at church for 9.30am. Please speak to Rita if you would like to know more.

Shawl Ministry
After many years of loyal service, Jackie Page has decided to lay down responsibility for coordinating our Shawl Ministry. We would like to find a replacement as soon as possible. If you would like to know more about what this entails, please speak to Jackie or Lynnette.

PowerPoint
We are looking for an additional volunteer who would be willing on an occasional basis to operate the PowerPoint for the screens on Sunday morning. The volunteer would be expected to help once every couple of months or so.

Derek Shale
We are sad to announce the death of Derek Shale, a very long-time member at St Andrew’s. Derek’s funeral will take place at 1.30pm on Tuesday June 25th at St Andrew’s. Please pray for Margaret and the family at this time.

Foodbank
It was reported at the AGM of St Oswald’s Church that this last year has seen the highest ever take up of foodbank parcels. Giving in Coventry as a whole to foodbanks has receded. Most Wednesdays, the bank in Tile Hill runs out of essential items by the time they close. St Oswald’s members wished to convey their appreciation of all that St Andrew’s does to support Foodbank. Please continue or even start bringing essential food items to church and placing them in the blue box at the back of church.

Giving
A reminder of the benefit of giving by Direct Debit. It means being able to support the work of the church even when you’re not able to be here. It means not having to search for money to put on the plate just before leaving home on a Sunday morning. It means the Church can budget with much more confidence, knowing what money is coming in. It really does make a huge difference! We are also wanting to encourage people to consider remembering St Andrew’s in their wills. Even a small percentage of your estate could make a huge difference to the ongoing mission of the Church.

Kitchen Upgrade
Thanks to two generous grants from WREN (Waste Recycling Environment Ltd) and National Grid, and the additional extremely generous support from many members of the congregation, we are able to proceed with a much-needed refurbishment of our kitchen and side room. Many thanks to those who have been so generous. Work has been slightly delayed and will begin on the 24th June.

Sponsored Walk
There will be a sponsored ride and stride event on Saturday Sept 14th, starting at St Andrew’s and taking in 12-15 churches in the Diocese on the way to the most southern part of the diocese down in Shipston. Anyone is welcome to join us, either by walking or cycling or by becoming part of the wonderful support crew. You may walk the whole distance (approx. 40 miles) or just one leg from one church to another.  Please see Greg or Veronika for further details.

Kidz Praise
Our next Kidz Praise service for Primary School aged children and their carers takes place this Thursday, June 20th with doors open from 3.15pm for craft, toast and activities, with the service of story, songs and prayers starting at 4pm. This week, led by Greg, A Time to Build, the story of Nehemiah.

Tots Praise
Please note that there will be no Tots Praise service on either June 25th or July 9th because of the kitchen refurbishment. The next Tots Praise service will take place on July 23rd.

Thy Kingdom Come
Thanks to those who joined the Bishop of Coventry and pray-ers from half a dozen other local churches on Pentecost afternoon for our prayer walk around the area. It was very powerful seeing so many Christians from different denominations praying together for our community.

Transport for Medical Appointments
St Andrew’s is planning to launch a new service in the autumn, offering lifts to medical appointments at Coventry doctors and hospital. In order to do this, we need volunteer drivers who would be willing to help out once or twice a week with a lift to the hospital or doctors. Full training and briefing will be provided. Any expression of interest will not be taken as a firm commitment at this stage. All volunteers will be subject to a DBS check for safeguarding purposes. If you would like to know more, please contact Julie 07756 918847 or administrator@standrews-eg.org.uk

Appeal for Volunteers from RAWKUS and Environmental Sustainability Team
Every year, tonnes of edible food and equipment are left in halls by students moving out. At the end of each term, RAWKUS volunteers combine to remove the leftover food that is still in date and edible as well as unwanted goods from Halls of Residence. If you are interested in volunteering to help see website link https://www.warwicksu.com/campaigning/campaigns/development_environment/rawkus/ or speak to Jackie Lynch for further details.

Altar Flowers
This week’s altar flowers were kindly donated by Marilyn Starr.

Prayer List
Please pray for Eddie Parkes, Colin Sanders, Flix Haynes, Norah Hall, Dennis Sinclair, Josie Yates, Beryl Lee and Rosemary Pottinger. To add names to the list please contact Julie at administrator@standrews-eg.org.uk or 07756 918847.
