14th July 2019 – The Fourth Sunday after Trinity

Welcome
St Andrew’s Church welcomes allcomers, whether this is your first time or thousandth time in church. You are welcome whatever your age, gender, marital status, disability, race or sexuality. You are welcome whether you have a deep and mature faith in Christ; are uncertain and still seeking; or have no faith. If you are new to church, please do take a welcome leaflet to be found in the pews; and do not hesitate to ask one of the welcomers if you have any queries.

Children’s Church
Next Sunday (21-7-2019) will be the last Children’s Church session for this school year. During the summer holiday there will be a box of craft activities available in the side room for parents to use with their children during the Sunday morning service. Children’s Church will open again with more stories, games and crafts on 8th September. We hope to welcome back all of the children and would love to see some new faces as well! The children’s team wish all of the children and their families a very happy summer holiday.

Holiday Club 2019
Following last year’s successful holiday club, we will be open once again for more crafts, games and fun for 5-11 year olds on Monday 22nd, Tuesday 23rd and Wednesday 24th July from 9am-2pm in Kenthurst Scout Hut. The cost will be £11 per day or £25 for all three days. To request a registration form, please contact Julie during office hours 8am – 2pm Mon & Wed & 8am – 12 noon on Friday. Holiday Club Volunteers
The Children’s Council are looking for a few more volunteers to help out with the holiday club on 22nd, 23rd and 24th July, 9am-2pm. It would be a help even if you can only volunteer for one day. You will need to have a DBS check and follow our safer recruitment procedure. For further information, please contact Hilary on 07980 596646.

Boxes and Cartons for Holiday Club
We are planning to make ‘junk models’ at holiday club so we need lots of empty boxes, packets, yoghurt pots etc. There will be a box for them at the back of church, but in view of the work being done in the sideroom, it would be more helpful if you could keep them at home for the next few weeks and bring them on 21st July. Alternatively, give me a ring on 07980 596646 and I will come and collect them from you. Thank you! Hilary

Foodbank
This week, we had 21 people through the door in 2 hours! That is the most we have served at St Oswald’s since it opened. We ran short of almost everything on the list, most of which are basic everyday items. I implore you to pick up a few items each time you shop, to help those who are in need and often Desperate. Unfortunately, we have no facility for fresh or frozen foods. It is all tins and packages. Tinned fruit, meat, fish and vegetables are especially needed. Other items include Milk, juice, tea, coffee, cereals, pasta/rice, baked beans, tinned tomatoes, pasta sauces, biscuits. All basic everyday items. If everyone just brought to church, just one item every week, think how much that would amount to. Just a thought! Please, please help. Thanking you in anticipation. Congratulations

Prayer Available
Please note that there is always someone willing to pray with you after the service about any need or concern you have. Please feel free to approach one of the prayer team direct or ask one of the clergy.

Carys Egner
We are delighted to announce that Carys has been appointed as maternity cover for Emma in her role as children’s worker. That role will change to Youth Worker (working with 9-14s) from August 1st.

Altar setting up
We have a small, dedicated band of altar servers, which needs additional people. Setting up the altar is fairly straightforward, and full training will be given. Volunteers will be asked to arrive at church for 9.30am. Please speak to Rita if you would like to know more.

Shawl Ministry
After many years of loyal service, Jackie Page has decided to lay down responsibility for coordinating our Shawl Ministry. We would like to find a replacement as soon as possible. If you would like to know more about what this entails, please speak to Jackie or Lynnette. The person who takes this on doesn’t necessarily have to be a knitter themselves.

Seek His Face
Our monthly gathering for praise, prayer and prophecy (Seek His Face) takes place tonight at 6.30pm. All welcome.

Nativity 2019
Plans are afoot for a live Nativity at Christmas. Anyone who would like to help as part of the planning team should speak to Greg.

PowerPoint
We are looking for an additional volunteer who would be willing on an occasional basis to operate the PowerPoint for the screens on Sunday morning. The volunteer would be expected to help once every couple of months or so.

Serving those in Need
Following our three-part series on Serving those in Need, Sue Masters has produced a companion booklet with additional information and reflections. Please do take one.

Giving
A reminder of the benefit of giving by Direct Debit. It means being able to support the work of the church even when you’re not able to be here. It means not having to search for money to put on the plate just before leaving home on a Sunday morning. It means the Church can budget with much more confidence, knowing what money is coming in. It really does make a huge difference! We are also wanting to encourage people to consider remembering St Andrew’s in their wills. Even a small percentage of your estate could make a huge difference to the ongoing mission of the Church.

Drama Workshop
All Star Theatre Company are running a 2-day drama workshop over the summer. On Monday Aug 5th and Tuesday Aug 6th, day 1 at Our Lady of the Assumption RC Church and day 2 in the theatre of West Coventry Academy 10-4pm for 10-14 year olds. £10 for 2 days including lunch/refreshments provided. Kitchen Upgrade
Thanks to two generous grants from WREN (Waste Recycling Environment Ltd) and National Grid, and the additional extremely generous support from many members of the congregation, we have been able to complete a much-needed refurbishment of our kitchen and side room. Many thanks to those who have been so generous. There will be an official opening of the kitchen on Sept 7th, but it is in use from today.

Sponsored Walk
This year’s sponsored walk is ‘From Bubbenhall to Bidford’, following the Shakespeare Avon Way and visiting 8 different churches, entailing a total of 34 miles of walking country lanes and fields. We will be raising money for Kidz Klub and St Andrew’s. Anyone is welcome to join us even if only to do one leg of 3-4 miles. Please see Greg or Veronika for further details.

Stamps
I am collecting stamps for charity and should be grateful for any donations however small. You can either give them to me or leave in an envelope at the back of Church. Many thanks. Gill Tunnicliffe

Kidz Praise
Our next Kidz Praise service for Primary School aged children and their carers will take place on 18th July led by Phil on Jesus’ baptism.

Tots Praise
The next Tots Praise service will take place on July 23rd. This is an informal gathering for pre-school children and their carers, with songs, craft and stories. Doors open at 8.45am, with the service starting at 9.15am. The theme on the 23rd is Samuel and Eli.

Transport for Medical Appointments
St Andrew’s is planning to launch a new service in the autumn, offering lifts to medical appointments at Coventry doctors and hospital. In order to do this, we need volunteer drivers who would be willing to help out on an occasional basis with a lift to the hospital or doctors. Full training and briefing will be provided. Any expression of interest will not be taken as a firm commitment at this stage. You can limit your commitment in any way you see fit.
