8th September 2019 – The Twelfth Sunday after Trinity
St Andrew’s Church welcomes allcomers, whether this is your first time or thousandth time in church. You are welcome whatever your age, gender, marital status, disability, race or sexuality. You are welcome whether you have a deep and mature faith in Christ; are uncertain and still seeking; or have no faith. If you are new to church, please do take a welcome leaflet to be found in the pews; and do not hesitate to ask one of the welcomers if you have any queries.
Please note that there is always someone willing to pray with you after the service about any need or concern you have. Please feel free to approach one of the prayer team direct or ask one of the clergy.
We are pleased to report that baby Austin (who has now finally reached his due date) has made a full recovery from meningitis and that the brain damage he sustained is expected to repair itself in due course. Many thanks for all the prayers for him. Please do continue to pray for Sean and Emma who have been through a traumatic time.
To Jayne & Terry Nye on becoming grandparents for the first time to baby Eliza. She has not had the easiest of starts with the need for a brain shunt. Please pray for her.
Steve and Eileen Warne
Are leaving Eastern Green for Scotland early next week. There will be an opportunity to say farewell to them at a special service on Sunday 29th September at 4.30pm followed by refreshments. All warmly welcome.
If you would like to contribute towards a gift for Steve and Eileen, please see Rita Muir or Lesley Lee.
We will be celebrating Harvest the first two Sundays of October. If you would like to make a donation towards the cost of the flowers please see Ann Dove. Volunteers will be needed to help decorate the church. If you can spare half an hour on Saturday 5th and 12th October at 9.15am please let Ann Dove know.
Rock Solid is back and bigger than ever! Launching on Sunday 15th September, Rock Solid will run on every 1st and 3rd Sunday of the month from 6-7.30pm for 9-14 year olds at Kenthurst Scout Hut. Each session we’ll have lots of fun and learn a lot about ourselves and faith. There will be some food provided so we are asking for £1 entry fee. Please e-mail: email@example.com to receive an online registration form. Paper copies will be available on the night. If you are a child at heart but don’t quite fit the age group, then why not volunteer and help lead the sessions with us? To get further information on this please e-mail: firstname.lastname@example.org
Our Nation is in crisis and our world is troubled. All needs prayer. As from Sunday 15th September at 6.30pm, we will be having a monthly time in Church (on 3rd Sunday in month) called “PRAYING TOGETHER” – an opportunity to hold our community, our troubled nation and specific areas of the world in prayer. All are welcome to join us. See members of the Prayer Ministry Team for further details.
Altar Setting Up
We have a small, dedicated band of altar servers, which needs additional people. Setting up the altar is fairly straightforward, and full training will be given. Volunteers will be asked to arrive at church for 9.30am. Please speak to Rita if you would like to know more.
We are hosting a quiz night, jointly organised with Allesley Green Residents Association, on Friday 20th September at 7pm. In a change to our customary format, the venue will be the Jaguar Social Club on Browns Lane and a buffet meal will be provided (instead of Fish n Chips). Tickets are available from Rita at a cost of £10 per ticket.
After many years of loyal service, Jackie Page has decided to lay down responsibility for coordinating our Shawl Ministry. We would like to find a replacement as soon as possible. If you would like to know more about what this entails, please speak to Jackie or Lynnette. The person who takes this on doesn’t necessarily have to be a knitter themselves.
Plans are afoot for a live Nativity at Christmas. Anyone who would like to help as part of the planning team should speak to Greg.
We are looking for an additional volunteer who would be willing on an occasional basis to operate the PowerPoint for the screens on Sunday morning. The volunteer would be expected to help once every couple of months or so.
A new term begins on Tuesday 17th September from 6-7pm at Our Lady of the Assumption on Tile Hill Lane. Cost £1 with all 8-12 year olds welcome. Drama, games and food. To find out more, please speak to Greg or Selina
Kitchen and Gift Appeal
There will be a grand official opening of our newly refurbished kitchen on Saturday 7th September at 10.30am. Tea and cake will be served, with Jose England kindly officiating. The event will double as a Gift Appeal, when congregation members and other supporters of the church are invited to respond to our appeal, in which we are seeking to raise £3,000 in gifts and pledges. The appeal is designed to support the work of St Andrew’s generally, but also three projects in particular: our new Youth Worker, Taste Life (support for those suffering with eating disorders) and St Andy’s need for a new, permanent venue. Please give generously either one-off gifts.
An annual clearance of the churchyard two weeks ago saw the removal of quite a large number of unauthorised objects. Removed items have been placed along the wall of the church facing the churchyard. A reminder that only fresh flowers are allowed (no artificial flowers or ornaments).
This year’s sponsored walk is ‘From Bubbenhall to Bidford’, following the Shakespeare Avon Way and visiting 8 different churches, entailing a total of 34 miles of walking country lanes and fields. We will be raising money for Kidz Klub and St Andrew’s. Anyone is welcome to join us even if only to do one leg of 3-4 miles. Please see Greg or Veronika for further details.

Open the Book
A team of 10 of us deliver assemblies into two primary schools in the area, entertaining children while telling bible stories. We would especially like to supplement the Wednesday morning team who take assemblies at St Andrew’s. You would need to be available from 8.30-9.30am. You wouldn’t need to be available every Wednesday. Even once a month would make a big difference. To find out more, please speak to Hilary, Kate or Greg.
The next Tots Praise service will take place on 10th September. This is an informal gathering for pre-school children and their carers, with songs, craft and stories. Doors open at 8.45am, with the service starting at 9.15am.
Seek His Face
Our next gathering for prayer, praise and prophecy takes place tonight, September 8th at 6.30pm. All welcome.
Transport for Medical Appointments
St Andrew’s is planning to launch a new service in the autumn, offering lifts to medical appointments at Coventry doctors and hospital. In order to do this, we need volunteer drivers who would be willing to help out on an occasional basis with a lift to the hospital or doctors. Full training and briefing will be provided. A first meeting for anyone interested will take place on Wednesday 25th September at 7pm in church. Any expression of interest will not be taken as a firm commitment at this stage. You can limit your commitment in any way you see fit. All volunteers will be subject to a DBS check for safeguarding purposes. If you would like to know more, please contact Julie 07756 918847 or email@example.com
This week’s altar flowers were kindly donated by Gill Tunnicliffe.
Please pray for Maureen Regan, Colin Sanders, Flix Haynes, Norah Hall, Dennis Sinclair, Josie Yates, baby Austin, Beryl Lee and Rosemary Pottinger. To add names to the list please contact Julie at firstname.lastname@example.org or 07756 918847.
