Bulletin – 6th July 2020

Church Bulletin

And so it was that people celebrated an end to lockdown with a pint (or seven) at their local. Many of us will have tutted at the complete breakdown of responsible behaviour that inevitably comes with drunkenness, with one Landlord apparently announcing that he won’t be opening again so much at risk did he feel by drinkers’ behaviour. Christians instinctively know where the moral high ground is located and make our feelings known from this vantage point. Our own difficulty is that the Gospel reading from this Sunday past sees Jesus not, as you might expect, railing against excessive drinking, but himself being accused of it. John the Baptist withdrew from human society. Christ, it seems, sought it out wherever it might be found. How much He himself drank on these occasions we will never know, but spend time with those who drank plenty, he certainly did. St Paul sums it up as being in the world but not of it. Never easy!

Reopening for Worship

As previously advertised, St Andrew’s Church was open for live worship on Sunday morning. It was a very low-key occasion, with only 15 in total worshiping; unable to sit together, sing or participate in communion. The most important thing was that we were there and God was with us. We have safely navigated our first time together and will be considering how we do more in the weeks to come. Thanks to Nick, Becky and Steve for making reopening in this way possible. And thanks to all those who ensured that we were able to maintain our online worship just as before.

Weds Gathering

We will be meeting to study Ephesians 1.3-14 on Wednesday morning at 10 a.m. The link for this zoom meeting can be obtained from Greg Smith.

Jigsaw Puzzles

We have many 1000-piece jigsaw puzzles and some 500-piece puzzles which may be useful for people over the next few months. If you would like one please contact Julie on 07756 918847 or administrator@standrews-eg.org.uk. If you are unable to collect a jigsaw please give me a call and I can arrange for one to be delivered to you.

Please pray for

The church leadership who meet tonight to decide how to develop live worship – what kind of service to have next Sunday. Pray for the Smith family. Fran and Greg’s eldest son is getting married on July 18th at St Andrew’s. A lot to plan and sort out at very short notice!

Psalm 56:3

When I am afraid, O Lord Almighty,
I put my trust in you.
I trust in God and am not afraid;
I praise him for what he has promised.

Thanks to Lin Chylinski for those words
