Bulletin – 19th October 2020

Church Bulletin

By now, most of you will have heard the news Fran and I shared yesterday morning: that we are going to be leaving St Andrew’s early in the new year. I run marathons, so this is not the first time in my life, I have made myself do something painful because it seems the right thing to do. On balance, we would rather be leaving when people are sorry to see us go than leave when people are glad that we’re going. I recognize that over the last 16 years, I have conducted weddings and funerals, baptised babies, prayed with people who have been sick or counselled those going through difficult times to the extent that there is hardly anyone in the St Andrew’s family whose life I haven’t shared at the most important times. This has meant as much to me as I know it does to you. This isn’t the time for farewells. Just the time to remind ourselves of those ever-inspiring words from Hebrews 12: Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith….so that you will not lose heart

Memorial Service

We will be hosting a Memorial Service online on November 8th at 6 pm.  The service is an opportunity to remember all those who have died in the parish over the last 12 months. Names will be read aloud in what we think will still be a very moving service. We are happy to add names of those who died longer ago or elsewhere. Please contact Julie with details.

Book Group

Join us this evening at 7.30 to discuss “Dinner with a perfect stranger”. Contact Greg or Sue Masters for the zoom link.

Toys

Despite Covid restrictions, it is still our intention to collect toys this year for Christmas. They will be distributed via the Family Centre in Tile Hill to children in the area who might otherwise go without (not least those whose families have lost jobs through lockdown). The centre currently has 100 children on their books that they are trying to support. As always, we will ask you to bring only new toys, unwrapped, and place them under the Christmas tree. Covid rules mean that we will have only limited windows to do this and that the deadline is set for 5 p.m. on Sunday 6th December. We know some of you have started Xmas shopping already and might appreciate this early warning.

Light Party

At our 10 o’clock service on 1st November, we are hosting a Light Party for our children, with party games; and a story about a party from the Bible. If you know any children who might want to come (numbers strictly limited), they will require an invitation. Please approach Julie at administrator@standrews-eg.org.uk

Congratulations

To John Ross-Barnard who celebrates his 81st birthday tomorrow and to John and Connie who celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary on Thursday.
