Bulletin – 23rd November 2020

Church Bulletin

One thing I have failed to pass on to you in recent days (in my defence there has been quite a lot happening!) has been the call by the national church (the two Archbishops) to the nation to pray. I confess that I was perhaps a little resistant to it because it seemed to have been prompted by the news that the churches were to be locked down again rather than the terrible tragedy of the thousands of deaths and the mental anguish of millions having to cope with social isolation. Also, the call rather begged the question as to why this hadn’t happened earlier right at the start of the pandemic? Nonetheless, prayer is always a good idea and I should have pointed out to you the encouragement that comes daily to my inbox at around 5 p.m. to join the nation in prayer. I am sure some of you will have picked this up despite my neglect and many others are praying daily anyway. However, is it coincidence that the call to prayer was so swiftly followed by the announcement of a very successful vaccine, quickly succeeded by several similar announcements? Prayer truly works. Never forget that as well as teaching His disciples and showing them the way, Jesus also prays for them. At this time, therefore, let us renew our commitment to praying for our nation in its time of need.

Corona Update

It seems certain that we will come out of national lockdown on December 2nd and re-enter a tiered system. The highest tier is likely to mean very little change for those subject to it. Coventry is in serious danger of being in the highest tier since infection rates remain worryingly high. We can all do our bit, but ensuring we keep the rules as strictly and reliably as possible for this next 10 days.

Toy Appeal

We are anticipating another fantastic response to our toy appeal. A reminder that we will not be able to accept late donations and that the final deadline for bringing toys to church will be 5 p.m. on Sunday Dec 6th. Greg would be pleased to hear from anyone with a large car boot or a van willing to help transport the toys on either Weds 9th or Thurs 10th Sept.

Operation Christmas Child

The ‘Shoebox Appeal’, has been delayed due to the Covid lockdown etc. Shoeboxes will now need to be ready for collection between 5th and 14th December 2020. If you wish to put shoeboxes together, they can be dropped off at church and I will take them into the collection centre. Julia McNaney.

Live Streaming

The appeal for people to make pledges to a livestreaming fund has engendered little response. It is not clear why this might be. Perhaps Christmas is a bad time to be making an appeal. Perhaps you are so happy with the pre-recorded broadcasts, you see no reason for us to do more. Perhaps you just haven’t got round to making a pledge yet. Please contact one of the leadership team and let them know your thoughts. Listen to Sunday morning’s broadcast, when Greg will outline the importance of trying to make this happen.

Planning Application

The proposal to build 2,400 homes, plus old people’s home, primary school, shops and other facilities on the land between Eastern Green and the A45 is coming to planning committee on Thursday 26th November at 2 p.m. You are able to log in to this meeting if you wish. Please visit the council website to learn more. If you want to make a written submission to be read out at the meeting, please email governance.services@coventry.gov.uk

Please Pray

For Beryl Lee, convalescing at a home in Keresley; for Peter Shale who has been diagnosed with inoperable brain cancer, for Marilyn Starr undergoing cancer treatment and for Bryan Walker who though home from hospital is still quite poorly. Please pray for the church leadership team, which meets tonight to further plan for the forthcoming vacancy.
